The Roadside churches in North Calotte and other churches with open door policies invite you to drop in during the summer while travelling in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland and in Northwest Russia. The network of churches includes both Evangelical Lutheran churches and Orthodox churches.
An open church provides a peaceful place to stop and rest. Once inside, you can admire the artwork, light a candle, reflect, pray or simply sit for a moment and enjoy the peace and beauty of the church. The church itself reveals a lot about the Christian faith.
Each year, there are approximately 150 Roadside churches open to visitors throughout the North Calotte region. The opening hours vary, so it is a good idea to check out the information for any individual church you may be looking to visit. Generally, the churches are open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. from 10 June until 20 August. Visitors are also welcome to attend worship services and other events, such as concerts and exhibitions, which are held at the churches.
Take a heavenly break at the churches of the Roadside network or other open churches.
